The Beam Family

The Beam Family

The Daniel Beam family of Springdale Farm transitioned from dairy to poultry in 2017, with two broiler houses. Currently growing for George's, they added a third house in 2020. Daniel and his dad, Tom, do the farm work. His mom, Lou Ann, handles bookkeeping for the farm and looks after their four-year-old son, Forrest, while his wife, Megan, teaches middle school special education.

The Beams keep their birds healthy and as comfortable as possible, because, as Daniel says, "comfortable and healthy birds pay better." Their environmental stewardship includes implementing the use of a litter shed and compost bins.

Daniel says they got into poultry because it is a good way to create cash flow off a small amount of acreage and leaves the rest of the farm available for other enterprises. The Beams also raise sheep and beef cattle. Like any farmer, Daniel says his favorite part of raising poultry is when they have a good, healthy flock of birds, and equipment is humming away properly!

HATS OFF TO THE BEAMS!
