The Rumor Family
The Rumor family of Smokey Valley Farm has been in poultry production since 1977. Currently growing for Pilgrim's, the Rumors are on their third generation of farmers. Amanda and Brandon officially took over the farm in June of 2021 . All members of the family help out in some capacity, including daughter Ava, who helps get ready for new chickens, and nephew Ethan, who helps when they have young chickens.
The Rumors have invested in a new litter shed and compost bins, and they take biosecurity very seriously. Everyone on the farm is trained in biosecurity measures and practices them routinely.
Amanda says for her, poultry farming is all about family and relationships. Having multiple generations of family involved is very special to us. She says they strive to have a good relationship with their service tech, catchers, and managers. "Our number one priority is being good stewards of the things God has entrusted us with," said Amanda.
